Using other peoples work

Okay, sure…reinventing the wheel sucks. When you look at it from the 50 thousand foot view it is nearly always a good idea to build our selves up on top of the accomplishments of others. There is a quote to that point:

What Des-Cartes did was a good step. You have added much several ways, & especially in taking ye colours of thin plates into philosophical consideration. If I have seen further it is by standing on ye sholders of Giants [sic]

Isaac Newton

The only issue is that we aren’t all so lucky to be able to follow amazing minds like Des-Cartes.

I have always had a love/hate relationship with wordpress plugins. In many situations they work, but there is a huge issue with testing and confirming the process before releasing. Only a select few of the plugins I know of even care about testing.

Its really a pain, but I don’t think I have enough time to write the plugins to provide all of the features I want on my blog =

Maybe I’ll figure this out some day.

Intro to the WordPress Settings API

API Documentation is always going to be a hell that I do my best to avoid. I learned early on when working with SourceSDK that documentation for much of anything worth a damn would be hard to find and the new WordPress Settings API (SAPI) is in the same ballpark. This was actually added to the 2.7 release of the trusty blogging / CMS software, but it was (was? is!) not well documented and has some really dope capabilities and features that you should all take advantage of.

So what are you waiting for? Time to rewrite a plug-in and learn the new API!

Upgrading…

Bear with me, updates inbound. Merry New Year!

Upgrades completed. All plugins upgraded and working. Woohoo! I have started posting my pieces ahead of time which is exciting.

Has anyone got any input on how to get commenting to work on regular pages?

Dean – Playmate. Red & White

This weekend I finally broke down and picked up my first guitar. I am officially picking up the guitar as my instrument of choice, and hopefully by this time next year I will be comfortable enough to play something and put it up here. I have a modest goal of being able to play jingle bells by Christmas and maybe serenading a special woman for new years; it feels good to be able to say that I kinda play an instrument. It is probably my largest regret from my youth. Too much time spent learning how computers work and too little spent learning an instrument. Saturday things changed.

Today in WordPress

A few of you may have already been given links to the new WordPress location, but for those of you who have been out of the loop, enjoy. Today I spent a good amount of time trying to figure out some of the details of WordPress and had a hell of a time screwing my head back on with YouTube embedding. I will kill this link when I get finished with the migration. Currently it is all fufu. I have been playing with the editor and what not, and the most important thing to note is that I am thoroughly impressed with WordPress.Save one thing.

Which only made me like it more. =)

Moving to WordPress

I have made the decision to get out of drupal at this point in time. Drupal has kept me rolling for about a year now, but i am really not too happy with it currently, and its plugin options are lacking. Expect this change to be completed in the coming week. =)

Cheers
