Manufacturation and why HL2 is done.

this morning I had a meeting with Mike Whitfield, Terry Moenkhaus and I met up, originally intending to meet up with the Iron Grip folks and solidify some of our issues and what not. Well that fell through. They signed someone else and so the topic fell on relief of being able to pull together an idea of our own. We talked for quite some time about what we want to do and unfortunately HL2 is not looking like it should be our focus. Most of the issues with building an HL2 mod are rather simple and hard to ignore, but one overwhelming issue is that there isn’t much that hasn’t been done. I likened it to South Park’s episode about how the Simpsons have already done everything, and they both agreed. We can rehash other game ideas but barring some new idea coming out it just doesn’t peak any of our interests.

Our discussion of game ideas was rather light, considering I haven’t really been able to persuade anyone to discuss any of the ideas that I’ve posted and no one has posted anything that really sounds viable. We touched on Galagone, a Space Simulation game that I devised, but our conversation seemed to be moving towards the other game, Manufacturation. Our situation is rather straight forward. We need something to work on that’s viable and will get true attention, and not try to steal away attention from similar games, as much of the Source development community is centered around. Once we got that out in the open we talked about some of the issues that we had with the game concept and we talked it out to the point that we were pretty well satisfied with our vision of the game.

What’s next? There is a lot of work ahead of us, and since we are not 100% working on it at this point (I know terry has a life and Mike and I have a lot of web stuff on our plates right now) so development will be slow, but since I have been posting nearly twice a day I will be doing what I can to keep the flow of consciousness into my site so things are simple.

In short, I think this is the last time I will be bringing source up for a while. I am retiring my HL2 projects, and moving away from it, wholesale. I need to be able to focus on Manufacturation.
